NLC June 29th/30th

Started watching on and off from about 21.00 UT, as I just had a feeling I was gonna see something tonight lol. Came down for a cuppa at about 21.30 then when I went back up just before 22.00 I saw a small patch of NLC right facing my window (sorry don't know yet know how to measure the height, brightness etc).

The display got alot brighter up to about 22.30 then came down for a cuppa and a smoke and when I went back up at 23.15 it had pretty much died off. I was kicking myself lol as I really thought it was there for the night.

Anyways, here's my pics! I hope these links work ok, I took loads of pics but these were about the best.

I'm so chuffed that I managed to take pics of them, I never thought I'd get the hang of my camera to be able to do it lol (thanks again John :D ) They were taken with exposures between 2 - 7 seconds. I was quite surprised at how much more detail the camera picked up to what I could actually see.

We had a nice show in Central Scotland viewed from Falkirk.
Took loads of photos some of them are poor some excellent. The better results I used a tripod with a 15 second capture.

I did mean the NLC dying out pretty much by 00:30 but I must admit NLC observing really does have a bad side effect..... lack of sleep and I wasn't far behind the dying NLC myself ;)

Makes 3 of us lol, I ended up staying up until 3.30am to see if anymore appeared at dawn. Problem was, by the time I looked out between watching tv (and drinking lots of strong coffee) it had gotten quite light but I beleive I did catch a very feint display. I'm about to upload the pics to check them then will post if I still think it was NLC.

Hi everyone

Nice Pictures! I got a few for myself in Bath. It's my first NLC outside Germany. As I do not know the lights on the horizon and the darkness of the sky by now, I was not sure if these were NLC untill I had a look at the images.

This is what I got from Wallsend (55N 0130W) until a rapid fade at 1125z Pics taken with a Philips SPC900NC webcam + Webcam32 cpture software.

Date & time on image. UT = BST-1.

22.59ut This last image shows just how bright these were, visible even through the lovely light pollution I have here. Incidentally the people visible in the shot are in the smoking area of the pub across the road from me - not many minutes after this picture was taken there was an almighty fight between a group of women that resulted in the riot van being called - what a nice place I live... :-X
