Hi,
Nice one last night. First picked up visually around 11.30pm local.
H lowered as sun dipped down towards true midnight then very interesting to record the cloud blow out to S/SW.
cheers,
Bill.

Hello, yes very nice one last night. Haven't been out 'properly' observing NLCs for a couple of years and it was very pleasurable. Reminded me of watching some of the greater displays a few years back.

I note I am almost exactly a degree south of you Tom so your images will make for interesting comparison to my own observations.

Hi,
Some great images there. A live video from last night. I had lots of low cloud so this was a very limited view. Canon 550D + Samyang 14 and 35mm lenses.

Beautiful pictures Tom. I was as Frank showered with rain. But tonight the forecast is clear skies. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi,
Here's the video from last night. I think my camera has slipped a little, need to re-adjust that tonight.

Good to see that you finally had good luck, Tom!
And of course congratulations to all observers.
I was clouded out again here in Northern Germany...

Hi,
The system is really quite crude as far as things go now.
I use a low light level CCTV camera (an unbranded frame integrating type) and a cheap zoom lens. The video output goes to a USB frame grabber and I record a frame every 12 secs (sometimes 10 seconds). The interval is just to keep the file size down a bit.
It's quite basic but it's produced some decent results for what it is.
If I can find the original leaflet that came with the camera I'll let you know the exact details.
Cheers,
Bill.

Thanks for the info Bill. Do you run any event detection programs to detect meteors?

Hi,
As for meteors, Yes! There is a meteor thread in the general board of this forum where such things are discussed "out of season" by the year round die hards also myself and a few others have a meteor observers forum at http://meteorobserver.proboards.com/index.cgi
It's shut down for the summer as most of the observers are UK based and it's a bit too light for regular meteor observing at the moment. Should be back in business for the Perseids. Please feel free to join in!
Cheers,
Bill.
