I went to bed at about 1am last night and had a quick look out of the loft window on my way up. It looked very bright blue/white to the north and the moon was on the opposite side of the sky to where I was looking but there was a lot of cloud about and alot of light pollution where I was looking from a nearby factory so I couldnt get a proper view. It wasn't worth me trying to take any pics as I'm no good at it lol but I was really convinced it was NLC........now i wish I'd stayed up a bit later in case the clouds cleared (or looked out a bit earlier).

Here's a gif time-lapse animation from 2008, 06, 12-13, 00:24-00:46 UT. It may take some time to load (7mb from a photo-sharing site).

Which animation software are you using? Any ideas for good freeware ? I process (resize, compress and time-stamp) the original jpg's with 'Irfanview', then animate with 'Photolapse'. Both are freeware and searches will give you download sites. However, I've found that Photolapse significantly reduces image quality when codecs are used, so, I've started to convert images to gif and then create gif animations. The gif animations files seem to hold detail much better, at the price of bigger file sizes. 'Virtual dub' is another application to try, but, is not for the faint hearted! Can anyone else recommend software for this? Tom
