Folk are seeing NLC at progressively lower and lower latitudes. Last week it was 40deg north in Turkey, now 38deg north in Iran. This latest sighting is from nearly 16000 feet from an extinct volcano - not that this detracts from the achievement or the quality of images though Check it out at www.spaceweather.com

Yes, it's another very low latitude sighting from, approximately, the same latitude (38.30') as last year's report from Portugal, though from a much higher elevation. Unfortunately, spaceweather.com don't specify if it was a morning or evening sighting so at the moment we can't even be sure of the date. Hopefully more information on this will become available.

Here in Spain 41.7° I'm still hoping for such a beautiful display. Since my last observation (13-14 July) nothing on many nights, but then, I missed 2-3 early morning clear-sky NLC-watches (slept through the alarm!) and some hills cover the lowest 10° to my northeast. It will be painful to hear of NLC close to here on nights I missed.

News has arrived suggesting that the NLC report and photograph from Iran is fake. When I have more information I'll post it here.

That is really really sad. Why is someone doing this? Just for this tiny moment of publicity? Unfortunately this is not the only occasion where there was lieing in science ... you always have to be carefull. Now you even need to be carefull when seeing NLCs on images from strangers and you have to ask if this is real.
:-(

It is a sorry state of affairs Shame when people feel the need to lie, we're trying to contribute to proper research of the phenomenon and there's clowns like this making stuff up just to get frontpage on spaceweather P.S. Hope everybody is well btw, the forum is significantly quieter out of season, it is good to see people are still checking back!

This 'report' never felt right. The good news is that the fake was spotted and here's hoping it wont recur. Nice image manipulation though!
