Hello,
Further to my comments about posting images does anyone have any thoughts on how we might protect the NLC material posted here or produced by forum members?
It's a tricky one, I have to agree with Pixaerial that it's pretty rubbish when your efforts turn up somewhere else without so much as a thank you.
cheers, Bill.

Hi,
All the reports published in the provisional listings at nlcnet.co.uk are transfered to the BAA Aurora Section where they are combined with the BAA results and then sent for archiving at Aberdeen University. There has been occasion when data from the website has been used directly but, so far as I know, this has always been accompanied by a formal request and credited to in any papers to the observer network, not individuals. If a request for use of images is made I always pass this on to the individual photographers. I have always found the academic community to be very good in this respect.
Image copyright is clearly a problem. If photographers are concerned about this then my advice would be to keep images small (640 x 480, or thereabouts, is fine for web use) and compressed - it's highly unlikely that anyone would attempt to publish such images on printed media. Uploading images to personal webspace or hosting sites can also be useful as this allows the photographer to remove or modify images themselves. I can always link to these images on the running lists.
I'd be happy to put a copyright advice notice on the homepage - can anyone advise me on the wording?
Tom
