I am looking for a DSLR camera as the old AE-1, AE-1 Program and F1 Canon bodies I have are showing age and it is very difficult to get parts for the upkeep.
I have been using a compact Canon for everyday shooting and even for the NLC pictures but it has very serious limitations and the old 35mm film camera is a real pain for film loading, storage, processing and digital conversion.
My choice is between Nikon and Canon only, I have seen a couple of other DSLRs but the lens choices seem to be between Canon and Nikon. I already have 8 different lenses for the Canon FD mount and really hope I can adapt my lenses to the new camera (several telephoto lenes that I am not eager to re-spend the money if I don't have to but it looks like I may have no choice).
I have checked several reviews online but there are so many models to choose from.
I want easy controls, I don't want to be fiddling with tiny buttons and scroll wheels out in pitch black in the middle of a field, has to have easy, sensible controls.
12 M pixel or better
Built in flash and a hot shoe (both)
I know I'll miss the all metal bodies of my old Canons but the new camera has to feel solid, not some cheap, plasticy, made in China junk. I want quality.
Video is not important, if it has it then it is OK but I will use my point and click compact for the vast majority of my video clips.
Wireless remote, prefer UHF over infrared so line of sight isn't important.
Battery life is a big consideration for me. I will be using for full sky, long exposure shots (meteor work) in the colder Canadian climate. Fast charge and long life is the key.
Large LCD, something easy enough for me to determine if my bracketing is accurate and acceptable.
I know it is a tall list but I am open to opinions and suggestions. I will be using for macro, wildlife/landscape and NLC/meteor work.
