Hi Paul, Here's the view I had approx 80 miles (129km) NE of you at 0120 UT. Do you have any times for your images? We may have matches. Tom

Hi Tom,
Nice image! I'll have a look at the Exifs when I get home - timings etc will all be in there.
Clear skies,
Paul.

Just looking at the timings - the first shot was 0101, the second was 0109, the first panorama was 0111/0112 and the second was 0152. I actually went to sleep in between having been at work today :-)

I put together this panoramic earlier which I think is better than any of the other shots I posted...... www.pevans.me.uk/images/nlc07070905web.jpgIt's 233kB so not too huge - zoom in with your browser and scroll across, it's like being there :-) Paul.

Here's another one of mine from the night. The camera time is set on BST so taking off the hour this image was taken at 0142. Notice those curious 'holes' on the left in the structure, I have never seen those before visually, only on other images. Camera is a Canon EOS 400D ISO400 and 6-8 seconds.

Hi John, By chance I photographed the same NLC (with Canon 350D) at the same time and I've cut and pasted both images together to allow easy comparison. Quite interesting to see the same structures from both locations despite being 100 miles or so apart! Tom

Hi Tom, that's an incredible match, it may be possible for someone to work out a triangulation from those two images. Wonder if DaveG took an image from Edinburgh at the same time? BTW the one above with the old house was taken at 0157UT, maybe you have another match, although your sky might be brighter by that time? It's wonderful the difference 15 minutes can make to the dawn twilight.

Tom, these matches are really good! Would it be useful to suggest that we try to get a widefield image on the half hour and hour during displays if possible? A compass bearing would be the icing on the cake of course!
Clear skies,
Paul.
