I'd go with them being cirrus clouds, stratus. They just look too fluffy and raggedy-edged to be NLC to me, but I'm a newbie here too so I'm sure others will have more educated responses for you.

Yes, looks like cirrus to me too. It's always worth examining suspect NLC with binoculars - true NLC generally bears magnification and shows finer detail, while cirrus doesn't. I'm sure you'll recognise the real thing when it appears. Best of luck with the rest of the season! Tom
