Very frustrating night last night. Headed up to Kendal Castle at 01.15 and there wasn't much to see, just a hint of a background glow to the north to the naked eye, and binocs revealed just a few vague hints of bands and streamers, but very short... long exposure photos revealed lots of tantalising detail, and enhancement of those images reveals even more too... www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=182489&id=543617930&l=a523e1f360Clouds completely obliterated the sky at 02.30, but I can't help but wonder what I would have seen if the sky had stayed clear... oh well, clear forecast for tonight, so have to wait and see...!

Unexpectedly, it cleared up in the morning here in Hannover, Germany, and I was lucky to see my first NLCs of this season (from 0:25 UTC). I went to a dark location north of the city and was able to get some shots before more clouds moved in. I changed my location and was able to observe the fading NLCs until about 2 UTC. Their extension was 320° to 40° and up to 40° elevation. It was a nice display as you suspected, but, not very bright. 1:03 UTC: www.theusner.eu/terra/images/nlc/20100620-21/NLC_20100621_0103_UTC_6pano_s1.jpgMichael
