NASA flew a high altitude balloon to observe PMC / NLC in July 2018. The instumentation included cameras and Lidar.
A preliminary announcement of the results is on Science Alert and a similar repot on NASA Goddard.
They seem to have 6 Million images totaling 120 TBytes !

There was a paper on this project at the AGU but I can only find the abstract here.
I expect there will be more information once they have had a chance to analyse the data. There may be some inpact on weather models as they apparently have a 'flat top' but this seems to show there is energy transfer from the troposphere to the meseosphere.
