Hi everyone
I just want to let you know, that I recently have moved from germany to england. I will start my physics PhD in Bath in the next Days.
I see ... now it's the right time to look for a new observing site for NLCs ;-)

Hi André,
Good luck with your studies and here's hoping you have a productive NLC season ahead.

Hi Andre. Hope you enjoy England and your studies go well. As for observing sites round Bath - my brother lives not too far from there and I know that once you get away from the lights of the towns that way there's some reasonably dark skies to be had (certainly better than mine here in the west midlands ). Heres to a good season of NLC's!!! mark

Hi Mark
Unfortunately I do not have a car and maybe will not be able to afford one in the years I am living here. So I am looking for places I can reach be foot. But Bath is quite small, so I think I will find something suitable. I visited Sheffield three years ago .... boy, there is a lot lightpollution in this area! Bath is much better!

André I'm the same as you in that respect - I have no car either so travel can be intersting... Bath is a hilly place so I guess find yourself a nearby hill for starters and take it from there. It also has the Herschel Museum of Astronomy www.bath-preservation-trust.org.uk/?id=8 which i've not personally visited but I reckon has got to be worth a look. Has the University of Bath still got an astronomical society? If so those guys should know some good observing sites. Failing that theres always the Bristol Astronomical Society which is active and not too far away - maybe they know some good locations?

Hi Mark
Thanks for the Hints. I saw the Herschel Museum from the outside, it was closed at the time a was there. But I will visit it as time comes. I have no information about anything at the University of Bath, but here is a "Herschel Society", and as you wrote, Bristol is not far away. I will definetly visit them as soon as possible!
