Hi, Been off on holiday and not been near a computer. I observed the comet in early May whilst I was on La Palma. I was also trying to image two others. (The reason I was there.) Got dozens of images but not processed them yet. I'll try and put something here next week. cheers, Bill.

Hi, Here's a pic of the comet. It was about mag 8 at this time. There is also a wee galaxy in the top left of the frame. (NGC 3450, mag 11.90) (A small typo mod)

As for the picture it's a 10x2min shot with a 40 year old 300mm f4 lens on a modified dslr, sitting on top of a portable camera tracking mount. It's unprocessed inasmuch as it's not been stretched or otherwise modified. Having said that I did apply a gradient removal filter to even the background but it's pretty much as is. Bill.

Here's the other Comet Boattini. Taken during a Perseid watch on Friday/Saturday night through what was continuously varying high cloud. It's a very poor picture but the comets there. The comet is about mag +10.5 to +11.0 By chance I caught a Perseid(?) and a satellite too!

Hi, Both Boattini 2007/W1 and Boattini 2008/J1 are now fading. Yes the weather has been truly CR*P!, even for the us in west of Scotland. (Nothing compared to Northern Ireland though, now thats serious rainfall!!!) I hope that there might be a break in the weather next week so I can get a couple of shots before they get too faint. cheers, Bill.

More comets... There are several wee comets trundling around at the moment. The good spell of weather has allowed a look at the northern ones. Comet Broughton, ~mag 10.3. Comet Christensen, ~mag 10.5

Your comet pics are excellent Bill! - with darker nights upon us now i'm hoping to get the scope out on an evening a bit more. Work means solar observing has now become a weekend only activity.
What setup are you using to get these pics?

Hi, Both taken using a 200mm f4 newtonian and a canon 350d. The Broughton image is 12 x 1 min but the scope was shaking a lot in the breeze. I'm surprised I got any usable images at all. The Christensen image was 3 groups of 10 x 1 min (there are a few chopped due to poor tracking) but aligned on the stars to show up the motion of the comet. Bill. PS Here's yet another picture from through the week. In over 20 years of observing I can't remember such a continuous spell of clear weather at this time of year! Mu Ceph + NGC 1396. 15 x 2 min 180mm @f2.8 iso 800

Fantastic Bill! Just clouds further down south atm, so the scope hasn't been out for a while. There doesn't seem to be much light pollution where you're observing either. Keep up the excellent images!
