Despite being in monsoon season here in the English Midlands for the past 48hrs, looking at Spaceweather dot com would seem that Martin McKenna and John McConnell have been seeing some great NLC displays. Few other reports from other folks too. Lets hope some are visible tonight, I currently have clear skies atm, fingers crossed

Hi Mark,
Reasonably clear (occasional low patchy cloud) here last night but nothing obvious through to 02:00 UT.

Hi,
Yes, a pity Martin doesn't contribute here now. The NI observers have the ideal combination of enthusiasm and impressive clear sky counts over the season.

If McKenna uses the term 'electric blue' one more time, I swear I'll scream. I've asked him to come back to contribute his observations here, but it seems we're not high-profile enough for some. I think we should be careful how much attention we give to someone who objected very strongly to having a simple 'confirmation required' next to his early photographs that showed no sign of NLC last May, and then left what must be the friendliest forum going. I think it's harsh to say Martin won't contribute as we're not high profile enough. Martin is a very passionate and dedicated observer and in my eyes the fact that he reacted the way he did is testimony to that passion and dedication. I don't want to reignite the debate of 'was it? wasn't it?' regards last years early observations. If anybody wants an overview of what went on check out >>> nlcnet.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=172At the end of the day (or night!) all of us here have the same passion and same goal, that is the appreciation of NLC and the collation and centralisation of recording sightings. Regardless of who saw NLCs and where this was reported, I personally feel it is appropriate to recognise and highlight others who have seen NLC, even if they choose to not participate on this forum, it heightens peoples awareness of the subject as a whole. Regards why Martin and the other boys from Northern Ireland choose not to participate here, and i've spoken at length with them about this, is not the fact the issue of 'were they? weren't they?' early NLC last season rather, the way that they were spoken to about this. I made it clear last year I was not happy with the way the issue had ultimately gone >>> nlcnet.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=184I genuinely miss the contributions of Martin, John, Paul and all the other boys from Northern Ireland. If you've looked on their websites and forums over the last couple of weeks you'll see they're positively buzzing with photos and tales of this seasons NLCs. It would be really nice if last years situation hadn't gone the way it did and we had all this centrally in one place. Tom sums it up very well to me... The NI observers have the ideal combination of enthusiasm and impressive clear sky counts over the season. This is a very friendly forum and by keeping it this way hopefully issues of the past can be put behind us which may encourage some old faces to rejoin us, and also contribute toward our membership steadily carrying on growing which it has been doing nicely over the last couple of years. Now, all we need is for this rotten weather we're having to break and we can get some observations in! ;D

But let's drop this dull topic and get back to quality observing and reporting. Indeed! Now, first person to invent a cloud disippation machine wins a pint

Weather looks very good for tonight (11-12 June) folks. Virtually no cloud anywhere for the UK, if the BBC's forecast is to be believed. Happy hunting! J. Yes, fingers crossed!
