Just caught a short display, started quite feint at about 10.15pm and I got hubby to drive me out to the spot by the river that I found and I'm about to upload the pics to see how I did lol. After getting pretty bright, the display started to fade at about 11.15 and is all but gone now Jo x

Short lived but nice display from Eastleigh Hampshire, first noticed at just after 10.30pm BST started to fade around 11:15pm Im trying to add photos but the ones ive uploaded on photobucket have come out all pixely, i think photobucket is converting them into another file type which is affecting them, ive never noticed that problem before Can i upload pics here direct from my computer?

Hi Jay,
Unfortunately it isn't possible to upload files directly to the forum - using a file hosting site is the best idea.

Hi, I found out why my pics were pixely on photobucket, i only had it set to upload smaller file sizes and my files are big, like 2.50mb! so i changed it to allow files up to 1mb and resized the photos to fit, seems to have worked, so here are my pics of last nights display, i was quite annoyed last night i could not find the thing that allows me to attach the camera to the tripod, and the display was in such a place i had to have the tripod almost hanging out my window to get a photo of the whole display, instead i decided to focus on the main areas of interest, which meant i didnt need the tripod in such a awkward position and i managed to balance the camera on the flat base where the tripod/camera connector would fit. I did want a pic of the entire display though so i rested it on a flat surface on the rails outside my window, and gently held it, as im on the 3rd floor it wouldnt be to good to drop! I did manage one pic of the display which isnt to bad and it shows some interesting whirl structures, which for some reason i didnt notice with my eyes. apologies for the huge photos!

Litteraly just posted those pics, looked out my window and saw a another display, however the sunlight was increasing so they didnt last long, this was more north-north east where as the earlier display was north west, is this a common trend for the NLC to move from north west to north east? venus was shining bright, hopefully I'll get a nice NLC with venus pic one day!

Thanks for the heads up everyone! Nice pictures Jay. I was on a night out in the centre of Birmingham last night and could clearly see them through the light pollution bang in the city centre. Looking forward to checking out everybodies pickies etc in a minute
