Nice one Tom! Dan the NLC is the white strips within the large clear section to the far lower left of Capella. We seen it here to.... I observed a faint (type 1 to 1.5) NLC display from 21.55 - 01.45 UT extending from N - NE 100 degrees in azimuth and a maximum of 15 degrees in height. Consisting of a white I Veil and IIb very faint bands. Conor Mc Donald and his girlfriend Katrina arrived down and together we drove out to the Maghera countryside to watch the display over a perfect horizon. I took images while Conor took video footage with his new cam corder. At 00.00 a bright white knot of material formed low on the horizon below Capella signaling that the display was growing. By 01.00 type IVb medium scale whirls appeared and concentrated below and west of Capella. At 01.45 clouds arrivd to obscure the display.
