A question for the Mods really. Any chance of expanding this forum so that people can contribute photos of interesting things in the sky during the none NLC season?
As NLC's have a short time period during the year it would be nice to keep the forum ticking over for the rest of the year as there are some talented people contributing some really stunning photos. Just a thought, Pete

There's a hardcore of us which check in 'out of season'. I certainly do on a daily basis on the lookout for spam / inappropriate content (luckily this is virtually non-existent), I suppose the 'general' thread is the one previouslly where out of season stuff is discussed. It would be interesting to see what others think of Petes idea? We're all ears

I'm all in favour of adding topics such as Aurora reports/images. Makes perfect sense. NLC in the summer months and Aurora during the winter.

I agree with John
The clear focus of this forum are NLC and related stuff, so it should be as clear as possible for this. For all other sky related things the general forum is ideal. I would not recomend to add more subforums, as I think this will just clutter the forum and make it kind of confusing ...
Just my 2p.

Yes, I think it's important that the website and Forum focus on NLC so I'd recommend using the 'General' forum for this. I'd also encourage continued use of the Forum over the non-NLC months. It's a real pity that auroral activity has been in such a long, deep low since the Forum has been in use - it would be the ideal subject to cover.

G'day cobbers,
Still a bit jet lagged from my antipodean observing trip, and still catching up...
I have to agree with Tom's assertion that the main focus of the forum must remain NLC but the General Board is indeed the place for all else.
I'm with Mark in that I too check regularly check year round. My own non NLC season activities are primarily meteor oriented. I know a few other members are meteor observers also so I'd certainly be interested to see what others are up to over the winter months on the meteor front. Further to my postings about video meteor observing I'd really like to know if anyone who replied has started to do such observing.
Last night the Perseid activity was really picking up. I managed to catch 25 meteors on the automatic set up. A couple were real crackers. Don't forget to keep an eye out over the next couple of night as we go through the peak.
It's interesting to note that whether it's NLC, aurorae or meteors it's all the upper atmosphere, an interesting place!
cheers, Bill.

The 11/12th was disappointing only seeing 2 (which must have been exceptionally bright) through really quite thick cloud. However last night (this morning) was much better. Although it was never fully clear with lots a moonlit high cloud there was still good activity. There was a great "outburst" around 00.30 with 9 very bright ( -1 or brighter maybe...) meteors all within a few minutes. Dew curtailed imaging at the out of town site but I caught a few on the video system at home. Roll on the Orionids. cheers, Bill.
