Just been out with the dogs and there are definite signs of NLC to NNW at 2100 UTC. Wave type and just being highlighted by the sun. Elevation est at 10-15 Deg. Checked the sun's elevation and is now 4 Deg below the horizon at my lat.

Must admit I was a bit suspicious but I am 95% sure of what I saw. Unfortunately I was awake on and off during the night and there did not appear to be much in the way of NLC later for some reason.

Even more suspicious now since I just looked at the CIPS data for 27th and 28th July 2009 and the nearest NLC appears just north of Jan Mayen, a long way north of here. Anyone have an explanation apart from the obvious that what I saw was not NLC.

Hi Dave,
Some observers have noticed that visual and CIPS records sometimes don't match. Some of the activity in early May, for instance, wasn't detected but we do have conclusive visual and photographic observations on it.
