Hi, Nice display ongoing. Glad I got up to check camera as it had either slipped or been hit by a bird. Was recording the wall for a hour! B 2/3, Alt up to ~20 degas of 0030UT. Get the video online later. Back to bed, work in the morning. Cheers, Bill.

Something similar Bill. Took a few pix before the display quickly faded. Looked OK on back of camera. But checked them now and well out of focus. I took a focus lock and switched to manual - dunno what happened, but pix are useless. This was at 00.44 BST from South Queensferry. www.flickr.com/photos/adrianmaricic/14441942596/

Hi all, Once again I had to battle clouds and the bright midnight sky means I lose the contrast but here is a timelapse of what I saw in the cloud gaps. flic.kr/p/o3iJN8Jimmy

Hi, Here's the video from my location. Not too bright over all but I think the main features were just out of the fov to the right. At the rhs there is a classic "standing wave" pattern of a gravity passing in the mesopause. youtu.be/CtSJOSW-yGMLooking at your video Jimmy, I think you might have captured what I call type L. Look along the line of the most dense filaments and you'll see ellipitical dark features. I'm pretty sure these would be more or less circular if viewed from underneath and a effectively NLC fall streak holes. The same thing happens in Cirrus clouds. I've not seen any NLC with this feature for a couple of seasons now, so it's quite rare. I've only seen it happen when these dense filaments form. I think this indicates particular conditions at the NLC layer, it's worth keeping an eye out for this effect! cheers, Bill.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for that very interesting information. I will watch out for them in the future. Super display you had down there. By the way, my camera also had a mishap last night - it fell off the windowsill! Luckily it was on the inside and had a soft landing on the bed so all was well.
Jimmy.

Many thanks, Olaf. Much patience required so far this season. Also completely cloudy here tonight (June 20/21). Jimmy.
