Hi, I'm new here and a active NLC-observer since 1998 in Saxony, Germany. My first display here in 2014 was on the morning of June 27th:

Really great here, too. Seen from Rostock, Northern Germany, Baltic Sea: Fore more images, embedded panorama views + movies please view here: 3sky.de/NLC/NLC2/2014/140626/nlc_140626.htmlEspecially the movie to this image: The movie is made by taking approx. 2 tele-photographs per second! Possible due to the short exposure time I tried it for the first time to use the continuous-advance mode. That is obviously necessary, especially if NLC are not only low above horizon. The wind is too strong + intervalls of 5 seconds + more will not show the details in the movement in greater heights in an eyefriendly way. But there was another "problem": Because of the noise of the shutter + mirror in the silent night I stopped it after testing it for approxymately 4,5 minutes. It seemed to be very loud in the middle of the night when all the other people / neighbours are sleeping. But nevertheless: I will "test" again The movie runs with 8 files per second. Regards, Olaf

Hi, IF the camera is a Canon... Some models will accept Magic Lantern software. Magic Lantern has the FPS override feature...if your camera shoots movies. Apologies in advance if all of this is already known. Here is a video of FPS override in action. No noise from the camera. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nubFO19dgsProbably still the best install tutorial: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMDD56RhStwI use it - the neighbours sleep sound. Jimmy

Hi Olaf, That's a great movie with the 300mm lens! cheers, Bill. Excellent photo and movie Thanks! Hope to shoot more of that. Had a new try these days but always clouds drifted into the NLC area. Jimmy No need to apologize, Jimmy. This is a great hint. Found a good description in German language, too. ( For the German speaking NLC fans: www.chip.de/artikel/Magic-Lantern-Canon-EOS-DSLR-hacken_66861832.html ) But I am afraid I am not the "hacker-type". I need a little longer for such a thing... Nevertheless: Great video instructions, Jimmy!

Hi Olaf, Yes, it's always best to image with the system that you are most happy with. Your pictures and movies from Rostock are always a delight. The flickering light from distant tv screens gives them a human touch. No need for any extra software. Jimmy.
