Hello all, Great to see a few early warning posts! Managed to get a few pics of the bright elements to the NW before cloud encroarched. Max h~20 degs. There was more bright nlc to N/NE but mostly covered with cloud, bugger! cheers, Bill.
Yes, good to see the alerts, thanks guys. I was looking at the IAP Juliusruh camera a while ago thinking that it looked like NLC, being an unsure novice I was about to post asking for confirmation when Olaf posted his alert ! Great, grabed camera+tripod, jumped in car and spent an hour seeing nothing in SW England !
Very bright opalescent blue low on north horizon that gave me hope, but after a while it faded and I returned home. Will try again later.
Hi Malcolm, I'd just drove back from one of my local observing haunts too. I has started to clear here and my cctv video camera is picking it up nicely. After a cuppa I might venture out into the garden for another look.
Hope it clears in your neck of the woods. Cheers, Bill.
Hi Bill, well that is the frustrating bit, beautiful clear sky here, almost horizon to horizon ! from Plough and Capella in north to Vega, Cygnus south, moon set in the west, a bit of orange haze pollution over Bristol NEeast ,,,, grrrr no NLC !
Time for 'nuther look by car, back in a while >>
Edit: not so long later, oh ! d d,, drat, clouded out
Wonderful display seen in central Poland. After dusk few nice but not very bright strings. Before sunrise was a magnificent display, reaching up to 40-50 deg up, bright enough to qualify it as "4".
One day I haven't took a camera with me (I were at a wedding party), and boom- NLC At least I borrowed camera from a friend and took few shots of evening display, I should have them soon. Pity I didn't capture the morning display- it was one of the most beautiful I've seen for few years.
We had a very faint but XXXL size display this morning, the lowest part was bright but it soon disappeared while the upper parts grew like crazy! I could never imagine to have an NLC here in Hungary (47,8N ) at such an altitude! A very faint but still recognisable band streched up to 55° which is more than unusual here! The display was also huge in its azimuthal size, streched from 320 to 080. Here are some pics: picasaweb.google.com/lgym124/0710nlc# I should have brought my fisheye lens with me but I was awaken by a friend's alert phone call and I was not fully awake when rushed out. :-)
Hi, Despite some heavy cloud to start with and end with, quite a good display.
For a bit of fun I took a couple of exposures through a gap in the tropo cloud to make a stereo pair for a 3D view.
Once you get the hang of it it works quite well. Try to relax your eyesight well behind the screen, you'll probaby feel cross eyed but the brain should take over and there'll be the 3D view between the two other images.
Hi. I made a panorama of the display 9/10 of july. Very nice and bright nlc display. My nlc report of the display don't show up in the nlc sightings. I have sent it in twice, but it didn´t help. I show it here instead.
